Scores on the Apps

If you haven't had ideal photos for a while, there's a good chance the app (Tinder, Bumble, or Hinge for example) has devalued you. These apps have a goal of matching you with similarly scored individuals. Let's use a 1-10 scale and say that with poor photos, you were a 3/10. The apps are most likely showing you to other 3s and 4s. When you update photos and more 4s start swiping right, eventually you'll be shown to higher scored individuals. The uptick in matches might not always update immediately because of the algorithm, but there are some ways to speed this up.

Premium Features

Let's focus on Bumble as an example. Bumble premium will allow you to see each person that has swiped right on you. You'll also be able to extend matches by 24 hours that are about to expire. Although you can see who matched with you, it's still wise to spend time actively swiping on the apps each day. This will let the algorithm know you're active.

Boosts/spotlights are also a great potential to boost your score and get more matches. When you run a standard boost, you'll be the top profile in your area. We recommend Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights—in that order. Around 9-10pm is ideal. People are often bored at home playing on their phones before work the next morning.

Which Photos to Use

There are many things to consider when choosing ideal photos. You'll want a clear shot of your face as the first photo. From here, there are a few options. If you're using a hobby photo like playing guitar, reading, or hiking, these may work well as a second photo but could also attract a smaller pool of people. But some could be more interested in something specific about your hobby, so it could be a better match.

From there, it’s good to use a variety of photos (i.e. don’t just use headshot type photos). A good variety might be, for example, a headshot that clearly shows who you are, a full body shot, a hobby shot, a laughing shot, a social shot that shows you like to have fun, and a shot where you’re smirking or look a little mysterious.

Filters

If you're outside some of the more central/hip areas of town, you might not be matching with the people you want because of either your filters or theirs. Many women have far more options than they have time for, so they might set their distance filter to just a mile or two. If you live in a suburb, it might be a good idea to head to a more concentrated area occasionally to run some boosts, or just do some swiping while at a cafe or bar.

Restarting Profiles

We recommend that if you have current profiles, don't restart your account right away. Give it a try with your new photos, and if you aren't climbing in the algorithm, restarting your profile might be a good idea. Be careful if you've already restarted in the past as this can make it even worse. Occasionally we work with guys that don't uptick right away, and a restart really changed things for them.
